Aussie Troy Herfoss flew across the pavement while leading his heat race and slotted onto the third row of the starting grid. His misfortune continued into the main event, and after coming off second best in a tangle with Steve Drew on lap five, he managed to finish eighth. Burkhart took the win, ahead of Jeff Ward and Chris Fillmore.
