HOT CAMS Q&A
Regardless of what you’re riding, your best choice for performance camshafts is always Hot Cams. Hot Cams has the hardware that delivers maximum power and performance with a minimum of installation hassle.
What sets Hot Cams apart from other camshafts?
Convenience and engineering! Hot Cams is the first camshaft company to produce its own cores from billet for the dirt bike and ATV market.
What does this mean to you?
This means no more core charges or having to send in your camshaft for welding. Also a cam from billet is much more durable and will last for years to come.
Do I have to modify other parts to run a high-performance Hot Cam?
No. Hot Cams offers high-performance camshafts that deliver maximum power and performance with a minimum of installation hassles. In some stage two and three cases there could be valve spring requirements, but this will always be noted.
Is a high-performance Hot Cam a good value when modifying my engine?
Yes! Hot Cams has been named a top product of year for its dollar per horsepower comparison. Hot Cams provides drop-in performance and is the best engine modification for the money. Many times, external parts that cost far more can give far less performance gain than a high-performance Hot Cam.
Does Hot Cams only make camshafts for race models?
No. Hot Cams makes cams for many play bikes and for many utility ATVs with our Mudbuster line. With a Mudbuster cam, utility 4×4 ATVs will enhance the low-end engine performance, with no top-end performance loss. Honda Rubicon, Rincon, Prairie 650 & 700, Grizzly 660, and Polaris Sportsman 700 are just some of the Mudbuster cams that you need to check out.
Does Hot Cams Camshafts really help my motors performance?
Yes, extensive development and testing is the key. Hot Cams test many variations of cams for each model to ensure that the best performance and durability cam is produced.
Are there cams for sale by companies that weld cams that make better power?
Yes. Many “radical” cams will excessively wear out valve train components. Hot Cams concentrates on cams that require little to no hassle while still making more power. We would rather ride longer and give up a small amount of power.
Do the Hot Cams still utilize the stock decompression mechanism?
Yes. Hot Cams all come with the OEM de-comp mounts in the cam, or with the de-comp and parts if the OEM is not removable.
Does Hot Cams make cams specific for big bores and or strokers?
Yes. Search your machine make and model to see if there is a stage three cam available for it. Hot Cams, of course makes cams to work with all of the Hot Rods stroker kits.
Does Hot Cams make any other items than high-performance Cam shafts?
Yes. 7.48mm OD shim kits for most 250F’s and 9.48mm OD shim kits for most 400’s/450’s. Also, we offer a conveniently priced cam installation kit that comes complete with degree wheel, dial-gauge, multi-position stand, extensions, 3-sizes of positive-piston stops, and a handsome wooden carrying case. This is a great tool for the serious mechanic or the four-stroke entry-level tech.
Can I look up my bike and all of the products available for it?
Yes. On this site go to Product Search page and select your make, year, and model.
The key to Hot Cams was and continues to be the ease in which you can get a high-performance camshaft. Hot Cams eliminated the core charge that nearly every cam company was doing previously as they were all welding up stock cams to achieve any performance gains. Hot Cams wanted to change the industry standard and sell only complete cams from billet. Hot Cams knew this was better for performance and for a longer lasting product.
Hot Cams concentrates on making high-performance cams that work with stock parts. In some cases Hot Cams will make stage two and three cams that will require some improved valve springs.
Hot Cams high-performance camshafts remain one of the best mods you can do to your motor for the cost. Best mod for the money!
