Capper Flys In For the High Banks
Brian Capper flew into Nashville from South Africa to run the high banks at the Music City Motrplex and to help the boys out in the AMA Supermoto Unlimited class. Hansen pulled a strategy together to increase the pad between Carlson and David Baffeleuf of Team GP Husqvarna. The idea was to build a monster KTM 610 racebike and insert Capper between the Carlson and Baffeleuf.
The strategy was flawless. In the promoter’s practice on Friday Capper had the field by half a second. When qualifications came around on Saturday the times tighten up with less than a half of a second separating the top 5 racers.
Capper started the race in 5th. By the end of the first lap he was in 3rd. It looked like a Team Red Bull KTM HMC freight train with J Lewis in first, Carlson in 2nd and Capper running interference in 3rd.
The strategy and the execution looked good until Brian caught a handlebar on a hay bale and made acquaintance with the tarmac. He rejoined the fight in 9th. With superb effort he cut threw the field to 4th, one position shy of the podium.
Tough race, good strategy, great effort, and only one position from meeting the goal. Not bad!
